Normally I try to make sure selections are pretty varied for the Monday Music Video. I like to go a while without repeating artists, and I have never — until now — repeated a song. And I don’t plan on ever repeating the same video. But sometimes a song has more than one video, and sometimes there’s a good reason to check out a different version.
Such as your friendly neighborhood writer getting his facts wrong.
I wrote about the first video for the song back on June 3rd of this year, and I talked about the accolades the song received, including video awards and nominations. But I goofed. I had been busy that day (much like today, in fact) and in my haste I didn’t notice that there was a second video produced for the song — and, more importantly, that it was the second video which garnered all the acclaim. It took my friend and fellow blogger Spikor to correct me.
So, to clarify, it’s this video which got the following accolades:
- #8 on MTV’s 1988 year-end countdown
- #82 on MTV’s 1987 year-end countdown
- VMA nomination for Best Video by a Male Artist
- VMA nomination for Best Special Effects
- #64 on MTV’s Top 100 of the 1980s
- #347 on MTV’s 500 Greatest Videos of All Time
I don’t have much more to say — other than George has some funky dance moves and a trippy cabin — but I felt I had to make that correction sooner or later. You might say I had my mind set on it.
